Community, Not Charity

CARBONDALE, ILOctober 13, 2025 –“Being a military veteran, I’m used to leading the fight on things, and I said this is something that I have to do,” said Levi Salinas, Chairman of the Warriors Welfare Foundation. Salinas, a Marine Corps veteran, explained that the program helps veterans “let that guard down a little bit” when accepting help specifically tailored to their community. The program provided a variety of essentials, including fresh produce, dairy items and pantry staples, enough to feed an average family for a week. For many recipients, the delivery service is a “godsend,” especially for those who lack transportation or have disabilities that make grocery shopping difficult.”It makes a big difference because we’re on a fixed income,” said one family recipient. “Knowing that someone truly cares is a blessing”. Salinas stresses that funding is an ongoing struggle to continue the mission.
